How To: Find The Right Foundation!

Hey Beauties and happy Wednesday! We reached the halfway mark of this week. Hopefully your week has been going smooth. If not, you still have a couple days to turn it around. ๐Ÿ™‚

If you’re new to my blog…WELCOME! Don’t forget to follow my blog because I post every Monday, Wednesday and Friday!!

To find a foundation that’s perfect for you is probably the hardest part of makeup for most people. There are so many brands, shades, textures, etc… I’ll give you a few pointers on looking for the right foundation.

1. Warm, Neutral or Cool

There are three undertones that you need to know. Warm, cool or neutral. Well, how do I know what category I fall in? It’s easy. Look at the veins on your wrist. If they appear green…chances are you fall into the Warm undertone category. If your veins seem blue…you have a cool undertone. If you have green and blue veins or you just can’t tell…you fall under the neutral undertone category. Now when you shop for foundation, if you have warm undertones, look for a yellow based foundation. If you have cool undertones, look for a pink based foundation.

2. Oily, Dry Or Combination

After you’ve figured out your undertone, now you must decide what your skin type is. Do you have dry, flaky skin? Do you get oily all over? If you’re oily for the most part, you’d want an oil-free foundation that dries matte. Too Faced Born This Way Foundation is a great foundation for this. If your skin type is dry, a serum foundation is best for you because it’ll bring moisture to your skin. This way, the foundation won’t show off your dry patches. A foundation that I recommend for this is Bare Minerals Bareskin Liquid Foundation And Pure Brightening Serum.

3. Lighting Is VERY Important

Have you ever tried a foundation in a makeup store and you absolutely loved it?! Then you stepped foot outdoors and you looked crazy?! I’m sure we all can relate. When you try a foundation in a makeup store you must remember makeup stores do not have natural lights! To ensure you have the correct shade…Go into natural light (outside).

4. Oxidation?

What is Oxidation and what does this have to with foundation? Oxidation happens when certain things are introduced to oxygen in the air. The best way to make this make sense is how some fruits may change color. Have you ever cut an apple and after a couple minutes, your apple turned brown? This is the same thing that happens to your foundation. If you noticed your foundation matches perfectly and then after a little time it turns a couple shades darker, this is just your foundation oxidizing. What I would recommend when shopping for foundation is to try it on and wait a couple minutes to see if the foundation darkens.

5. Ask Opinions

We have all been through the struggle of finding a foundation that works for us. Don’t be afraid to ask for opinions. Ask a few people in the makeup store what they think of this foundation. Take a picture without a filter and post it to your social media accounts. I’m sure nobody would think your weird.

6. Get Samples

Try to get a few samples of different foundations that you’re interested in. I do this ALL the time before I purchase a new foundation. Some foundations are pricey and if you’re going to spend the money, you want to see if the formula is right for you. Try the samples out and when you’ve made your decision, go back and purchase the foundation. Each foundation sample is usually enough to last a couple days, so you can really test it out.

I hope you found this post helpful. If you follow these steps, you’ll be sure to find the right foundation for you. What foundation are you loving at the moment? Let me know in the comments.

  1. Color-matching is the hardest thing to do! I feel like even if you know all the tips, it still can be challenging for all the reasons youโ€™ve listed. I think itโ€™s always best to ask someone for help or confirmation!
